The Slovakian chamber string orchestra Musica Iuvenalis marks its 50th year with an open-air concert at the Rizal Park in Manila. The group, along with the University of the Philippines Manila Chorale, offers an evening of delightful music by Bizet, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini, and Filipino composer John Pamintuan. The Philippine premiere of Pamintuan’s pieces will also feature the Coro Tomasino.
Musica Iuvenalis, founded in Kosice, Slovakia, comprises mostly of professionals and high school and university students. In recent years, the group has participated in events such as the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, the Šengenský Meridian Festival, and the Festival of Sacred Art in Košice. Musica Iuvenalis also received first prize for the European Music Junior category in the Belgian Neerpelt Music Festival.
