Villancicos ng Paskong Pilipino

“Villancicos ng Paskong Pilipino” is a concert that hopes to bring back the traditional and festive music of early Philippine Christmas celebrations in the context of 19th century Intramuros Manila. It will feature three choirs: The Tiples de Sto. Domingo and The Sto. Domingo Male Choir with Eugene de los Santos (conductor), and UP’s Novo Concertante with Arwin Tan (conductor). Admission is free.

LA-based Filipino tenor Sal Malaki presents an evening of opera, inspirational, and Christmas music. Joining Mr. Malaki is guest soprano Tricia Amper-Jimenez and a six-piece string ensemble. The event is for the benefit of the Oblate Sisters of the Most Holy Redeemer, a group that provides shelter, education, and therapy for sexually abused women.

Noli Me Tangere: An Opera

To mark Jose Rizal’s birth sesquicentenary, Dulaang UP presents Noli Me Tangere: An Opera, a production on the libretto by Guillermo Tolentino and with music by national artist Felipe de Leon. Young opera singers from various conservatories collaborate under the direction of Camille Molina. Some of the opera’s memorable songs include Maria Clara’s “Kay Tamis ng Buhay”, the lovers’ duet “Sa Lupang Pinangako”, Sisa’s haunting “Awit ng Gabi”, and Ibarra’s “Aking Isinangguni”.
