SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Explore Music with Russell Brandon in the following series:
THE ORATORIO TRIUMVIRS
_______________________________
This
year, the music world celebrates multiple important
anniversaries. The three that stand out are the 250th
anniversary of the death of George Frederick Handel,
the 200th anniversary of the death of Joseph Haydn,
and the 200th birth anniversary of Felix Mendelssohn.
All three were German-speaking musicians who enjoyed
phenomenal success in England — not least through their
oratorios.
DZFE’s guest musicologist Russell Brandon will take you
through six great oratorios by the Triumvirs, a Thursday a
month at 1300.
G.F. Handel: Messiah April 16, Israel in Egypt
May 14
Joseph Haydn: The Creation June 18, The
Seasons July 16
Felix Mendelssohn: Elijah August 13, St Paul
September 17
The series will be rebroadcast in the last quarter of the
year.

MASTERPIECES YOU HAVE
MISSED
________________
Mon
1500-1700
This series of
12 programs seeks to feature outstanding works by composers
who were not included in the series Thirty Six: The
History and Development of Music.
None of the composers in this series was included in the
previous series not through any lack of merit, but rather
because they did not ‘fit in’ to the historical perspective.
Many were beneficiaries of newly-established traditions,
many men of their time with an individual voice. As such,
they produced masterpieces which can stand comparison with
the works of their peers.
Russell Brandon is a
noted musicologist and pianist. His principal teacher was
the Chopin Laureate Zbigniew Grzybowski. For 20 years, he
was professor of Piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music
and Drama.
He was also a professor at the University of Wales for 12
years. Since 1995 he has been associated with the main music
schools in the Philippines, namely, St. Scholastica's
College, University of the Philippines, Siliman University
and the University of Santo Tomas, where he has given
numerous Master Classes and Lecture Recitals. He also
coaches the Clarion Chamber Ensemble and introduces their
programs by providing annotations.
