THE WORK
that excites us______________________________________
Being on mission with God…
“I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that
you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world,
just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth;
your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have
sent them into the world.” John 17:15-18
“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and
proclaim the gospel to the whole creation’.” Mark
16:15
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all
creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and
on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created
through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in
him all things hold together. And he is the head of the
body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from
the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in
him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and
through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on
earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”
Colossians 1:15-20
We are passionate about being —
° sent by Christ our
Savior
° into the world
° to proclaim the Gospel
of reconciliation with God by the blood of
Christ
° for all things.
… in the field of the Humanities.
“And [Jesus] said to ‘You shall love the Lord with all your
heart and all your soul and with all your mind.’” Matthew
22:37
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern
what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and
perfect.” Romans 12:2
“For those who live according to the flesh set their
minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live
according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the
Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to
set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans
8:5-6
We place the pursuits of our programming within the
context of the Humanities, which nurture the intellectual
faculties, and are commonly understood to embrace the
exploration of languages and literature, history,
philosophy, religion, the visual and performing arts,
including music.
The 1980 United States Rockefeller Commission on the
Humanities described the humanities this way:
“Through the humanities we reflect on the fundamental
question: What does it mean to be human? The humanities
offer clues but never a complete answer. They reveal how
people have tried to make moral, spiritual, and intellectual
sense of a world in which irrationality, despair,
loneliness, and death are as conspicuous as birth,
friendship, hope, and reason.”

We regard the nurture of the mind as a profoundly loving
ministry. It is also one that vitally needs the Way, the
Truth, and the Life of Christ.
We love —
° exploring God at work
in the humanities.
°
people of all ages and occupations who need and value
the life of
the mind in their living and working.
