The all-male a capella group from Yale University, The Whiffenpoofs, come to Manila for a concert called “Reach”. They will share the stage with Koro Ilustrado, a Makati-based all-male choir.
The “Whiffs” started out in 1909 as a senior quartet that was regularly featured at a Yale tavern. More than a century later, the ensemble has grown into one of the university’s celebrated traditions. The Whiffenpoofs have appeared in venues such as the Lincoln Center, the White House, and the Carnegie Hall, as well as in TV programs like Saturday Night Live, Gilmore Girls, The West Wing, and Glee. They perform a variety of songs, ranging from original compositions and traditional Yale tunes to popular hits from different decades.
Koro Ilustrado is a member of the Madz Et Al network, a group organized by the Philippine Madrigal Singers; it comprises male members, mostly working professionals, who received prior vocal training with school or church ensembles.
