Vancouver-based Filipino pianist Ross Salvosa performs in the first of this year’s CCP Special Concert Series. The evening’s program includes Schubert’s Sonata in A minor; the “Circulos Ritmicos” and “Danza Ritmica” from the Danzas Gitanas, Op. 84, and “La Andaluzas Sentimental” from Mujeres Espanolas, Op. 17, all by Turina; Frederic Chopin’s Sonata in B-flat minor, and excerpts from Stravinsky’s Firebird.

Salvosa was a winner of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and has received training from Filipino pedagogues Mauricia Borromeo, Reynaldo Reyes, Emilio de Rosario, and aunt Ruby Salvosa. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University under the tutelage of Roberta Rust and Philip Evans. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Musical Arts, majoring in Piano Performance at the University of British Columbia under Sara Buechner and Corey Hamm.

Salvosa will be giving masterclasses on July 24 and 25 (1300-1700).
