CHRISTMAS TAPESTRY is DZFE’s annual masterworks series for the Nativity season, and is one of several special features—offered by producers both here and abroad—set to air this year-end.
This year, CHRISTMAS TAPESTRY makes its home in The Good Measure with Tiffany (Sun 1700, Wed 2400, Fri 1400). Starting the second hour of the program from December 1 to 27, TAPESTRY features Italian and Spanish works —
- Week of December 1 : Two Magnificat settings, by Antonio Vivaldi and Claudio Monteverdi
- Week of December 8 : Four villancicos by Antonio Soler
- Week of December 15 : Ottorino Respighi’s Laud of the Nativity and Joaquin Rodrigo’s Retablo de Navidad
- Week of December 22 : A Gloria & Credo for Christmas mass by Baldassare Galuppi;
The week of December 29, the series enters the New Year with the Genesis Suite of 1945—unique collaborative work featuring narration of Scripture text with music by leading composers of the early 20th century Arnold Schoenberg, Nathaniel Shilkret, Alexandre Tansman, Darius Milhaud, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Ernst Toch and Igor Stravinsky.
Other DZFE-produced programs mark the season with special features — Catch “Christmas Funfare” and a “New Year Children’s Program” on CHAMBER MUSIC IN PROGRESS with David Jerome Johnson (Sun 1500, Tue 2000, Fri 2400) the weeks of December 22 and 29. INSPIRATIONS with Eric (Sat 2230) enters “A World of Christmas” on December 21.
Cross over into 2020 with us and our yearly NEW YEAR’S EVE WITH BEETHOVEN’S NINTH program (Dec 31, 2300).
