Early Music Now!

Posted on Jun 28, 2018

From medieval chant and polyphony to renaissance madrigals, dances and consort music to splendid baroque cantata and keyboard music — Find them all in the one-hour showcase of early music that is EARLY MUSIC NOW (Sat 1700, Mon 1400, Fri 100) with Sara Schneider, our latest addition to DZFE’s roster of programs and the fruit of our partnership with WFMT in Chicago.

After studying musicology at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Michigan native Sara Schneider went on to become an award-winning radio producer and announcer. She is also an author.

Highlights from the inaugural season of the show include a program on “Italian Delights” (the music of Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli and 17th century love songs performed by tenor Marco Beasley), “This Place is a Zoo!” a playful program on portrayals of animals in early music, and “From Four to Forty in Sixty Minutes”, exploring multi-part choral music by Allis, Gabrieli and Striggio.

Early music has long found a home on DZFE. MILLENNIUM OF MUSIC (Wed 1600, Fri 1100, Mon 2400) with Robert Aubry Davis marked its 40th Anniversary this year, and has now been with DZFE for nearly a decade.
