This September on EXPLORING MUSIC (weekdays 1000), Bill McGlaughlin celebrates quality music of the cinema. The series “I Lost it at the Movies” the week of September 23 includes Saint-Saens’ vintage score for L’Assasinat du duc de Guise; the Golden Age glories of Hollywood scores by Erich Korngold and Franz Waxman; the timeless themes of Ennio Morricone, Maurice Jarre, and John Barry; and the oriental strains of Tan Dun.
The week of September 30, the program explores “The Piano Concerto” — the works that showed off the thundering virtuosity of some of the great composer/pianists that gave rise to music’s first superstars.
