Since its publication in the mid-1640s in England, the Westminster Shorter Catechism has been used by churches the world over as a tool for teaching the Christian faith. This 2022, Pilgrim Community Church and DZFE invite you to journey through the Westminster Shorter Catechism in a new weekly series: HOLY & HAPPY, beginning on January 9 (Sun 1700; further airs Mon 1200, Tue & Fri 655, Wed & Sat 2330, Thu 1355). Over the course of 104 episodes, Pastor James Bryner Chu, church planter and lead pastor of Pilgrim Community Church, unpacks each question in the Shorter Catechism as a guide to understanding the Christian faith and sound doctrine.
The Shorter Catechism begins by declaring that the chief purpose of our lives is to find endless holiness and happiness in God. As Pastor James notes: “Glorifying and enjoying God are not two distinct ends that can be pursued separately. The Biblical vision is that man’s chief end consists of the one reality of finding endless holiness and happiness in God.”
HOLY & HAPPY is based on Dr Kevid J. Bidwell’s edition of the Shorter Catechism, used with his permission (The Westminster Shorter Catechism,’ in K. J. Bidwell (ed.), The Westminster Standards in Modern English, (Welwyn Garden City, 2017), 125-43.)
HOLY & HAPPY is also available as a podcast on Spotify and SoundCloud! New episodes will be released every Friday (1500).
