Two new concert hall programs debut on the broadcast this October!

Having retired its program CONCERT HOUR, Radio Deutsche Welle presents DW FESTIVAL CONCERTS (Thu 1400-1600), introducing Cristina Burack as host. Tune in for the latest classical music festivals, recorded live in Germany. The episodes also contain insights and interviews with performers, conductors, and festival directors. The program launches on October 14 with the 100th anniversary celebration of the Würzburg Mozart Festival, featuring performances on instruments owned by Mozart.

Later in the season, hear Beethovenfest performances by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Herbert Blomstedt, who, at 94, is one of the oldest major conductors in the world. Oksana Lyniv made history for being the first woman to conduct at the Bayreuth Festival. She leads the Bayreuther Festspielorchester in an exciting production of Richard Wagner’s “Flying Dutchman”. At year-end, Maxime Pascal leads the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Gustav Mahler’s Second Symphony.

From another of DZFE’s radio partners, the WFMT Radio Network, comes a new season of the LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC (Mon 1300-1500). The series unveils highlights from the orchestra’s 103rd, starting October 11 on DZFE. The LAP offers thirteen riveting episodes under the leadership of Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel.

Pieces by Mozart, Brahms, and Bernstein set the series in motion, with soprano Nadine Sierra as the soloist for Mozart’s “Exsultate, jubilate”. At the close of November, Finnish conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen joins the orchestra as a guest conductor in a program that includes his own compositions. Listeners can also look forward to the world premiere recording of Steve Reich’s “Music for Ensemble and Orchestra” with Susanna Mälkki as conductor. The last episode features evergreen favorites by Tchaikovsky.
