More music in San Francisco and Santa Fe!

This May brings new seasons of the SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY BROADCAST and the SANTA FE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL!

THE SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY (Wed 1300) brings you more of the excellent programs you expect from one of America’s great orchestras. Soloists like pianists Daniil Trifanov, András Schiff, and Yefim Bronfman; violinists Leonidas Kavakos and Alexander Barantschik; and a host of great singers, including Susan Graham, Kelley O’Connor and Thomas Hampson testify to the quality of these broadcasts.

The San Francisco Symphony has always been distinguished for its celebrated music directors. The renowned Michael Tilson Thomas has held that post since 1995. Praise has also come to the Symphony for its celebration of American composers and audience development projects, including their SFS Media label, releasing audio recordings, documentary and live performance videos, and an innovative web presence, in addition to these radio broadcasts.

The SANTA FE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL (Wed 1600) draws us back to the foothills of New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains for another 13 hours of chamber music masterpieces, captured at the Festival’s 2016 summer season.  In his Festival debut, pianist and 2016 Artist-in-Residence, Peter Serkin, plays William Byrd’s arrangement of Pavana lachrymae by John Dowland.  Later in the season, he collaborates with the brilliant young musicians of the Dover String Quartet in a performance of Dvorak’s Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 81. Festival Artistic Director Marc Neikrug also says of this year’s highlights, “We are delighted to present Elizabeth Ogonek’s commissioned work, Lightenings, 12 variations for four players, in its world premiere. This is especially significant because she is a ‘graduate’ of our inaugural Young Composers String Quartet Project in 2013.” Elizabeth Ogonek is presently a Chicago Symphony Orchestra Mead Composer-in-Residence.”

Both these programs come to you through DZFE’s partnership with the WFMT Radio Network in Chicago.
