It’s time to stretch out! This year’s edition of HOMESPUN, our marathon request program (Maundy Thu 1000-2000) packs in a 20th century Passiontide work, Pinho Vargas’ Judas, as well as two operas. Find the full playlist here.
On Resurrection Sunday, join us as David opens the day with an extended SACRED MUSIC INTERLUDE (Sun 700), featuring the rousing third part of Handel’s Messiah and beloved Eastertide hymns. Our BACH CANTATA OF THE WEEK with DZFE’s Tiffany (Sun 845) is the danceable “Ein Herz, das seinen Jesum lebend weiß” (A heart that knows its Jesus is living), BWV 134.
Later in the afternoon, CHAMBER MUSIC IN PROGRESS with David Jerome Johnson (Sun 1500) offers the contemplative Seven Last Words of Christ by Joseph Haydn. Our Easter Sunday culminates in the dramatic proclamation, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is they victory” in Frank Martin’s Golgotha, the highlight of our Resurrection Sunday programs, presented on THE GOOD MEASURE with DZFE’s Tiffany (Sun 1700).
Adjustments have been made to the regular broadcast schedule. Drive time programs, CLASSICAL DRIVE and CRUISING WITH THE CLASSICS are on hiatus; they resume on Monday, April 10. On April 6, CLASSICAL GUITAR ALIVE and EXPLORING MUSIC air earlier in the morning (Thu 800 and 900 respectively), while on Resurrection Sunday, MOODY PRESENTS moves up (Sun 630) to accommodate our special edition of the SACRED MUSIC INTERLUDE (Sun 700).
This year, the station takes an uncharacteristic break on Good Friday and Black Saturday to manage problems presented by an unexpected breakdown in the cooling system of our transmitter facility. Owing to this development, HOMESPUN runs only on Maundy Thursday instead of until Black Saturday, as originally planned.
