Enter an oasis of classical music records, performances of the finest vintage, collected by Henry Fogel—COLLECTOR’S CORNER (Wed 2000, Sat 1400). Says Fogel: “The series will present a wide range of recordings that I feel are true classics of the industry. Recordings to be included will feature either unusual repertoire that I feel deserves a wider public, or performances unique in their interpretive profile, sense of commitment, and intensity. Many of these recordings will be long out-of-print, or hard to locate in the United States.” COLLECTOR’S CORNER launches on DZFE the evening of May 8 with a program of Furtwängler conducting Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique” and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”.

The curator of this collection is an elder statesman of the American classical music arena. Fogel is currently Dean of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. His almost fifty years in music administration have included stints as President and CEO of the League of American Orchestras and President of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for 18 years. Fogel has also been Orchestra Manager of the New York Philharmonic, Executive Director of the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington. For fifteen years (1963-1978) he was program director and vice president of classical music radio station WONO in New York.
